Living Library at the Library in Heeze:

Have a conversation with a 'living book' on Saturday, November 9th.

At the Living Library, you don’t borrow books… you borrow people. Living books who have all faced certain prejudices in their lives. On Saturday, November 9th, Bibliotheek Dommeldal is organizing the Living Library at the library in Heeze. In an open conversation, anything can be asked and discussed. The result? Surprising and inspiring encounters with humor.

During the Living Library, you engage with those who may seem different: interesting people you wouldn’t usually speak to in daily life. Is what we think about others based on appearances correct? How aware are you of your own biases? And do you dare to meet your ‘prejudice’?

The Living Library is a well-known Danish concept that connects people and breaks down taboos in a very simple way: by engaging in open conversation. The result? Surprising and inspiring encounters with humor.

How do you read a living book?

Just like at the library, you look at a catalog of available 'living books.' On a large board, you can see if a book is not currently borrowed. Through the front desk, you can indicate with whom you’d like to have a conversation. The desk staff will then connect you with your chosen ‘living book’. You sit down with the chosen book, and the ‘reading’ begins. The book shares their story. As a reader, you may ask anything, but the book can also ask you questions. In a short time - you borrow a book for 20 minutes - engaging conversations arise. During the hours the Living Library is open, you can borrow multiple books.
